TelePacific was founded in 1998 by David Glickman, who decided to enter the CLEC market because of his frustration with the poor service from large telecommunications companies. He saw the need for a full service company with premier customer service and competitive prices. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 opened the door and allowed customers to choose their local telecommunications provider for the first time ever.TelePacific deployed its first switch in Los Angeles in 1998 to cover the Los Angeles and Orange County markets. Since then, the company has deployed switches in the Bay Area, San Diego and Las Vegas markets, covering seven markets in California and Nevada. Today, TelePacific is more than 400 employees strong and continues to expand its markets. In May 2002, TelePacific purchased additional switching facilities in Northern California - expanding its footprint in the area and acquiring an additional 1,100 customers. TelePacific has secured more than $240 million in financing since May of 1999, including a recent $40 million equity investment from its existing investors led by Investcorp These investments support the expansion of TelePacific's network infrastructure and back office systems.
