Mediacom Communications
Mediacom Communications Corporation, incorporated in 1999, offers its customers a full array of traditional analog video services, also referred to as core cable television services. In addition, it offers to a significant portion of its customer base advanced broadband products and services, such as digital cable television and high-speed Internet access. The Company launched video-on-demand (VoD) service in certain cable systems in 2002, and deployed a limited high-definition television (HDTV) service in certain cable systems. It is also exploring other opportunities in interactive video, Internet protocol (IP) telephony and other broadband services. The Company's cable systems passed approximately 2.7 million homes and served approximately 1.6 million basic subscribers in 23 states, principally Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina and South Dakota.Mediacom's broadband cable network enables its high-speed Internet customers, also referred to as cable modem customers, to transmit data up to 100 times faster than traditional telephone modem technologies. Its cable modem customers can receive and transmit large files over the Internet in a fraction of the time required when using the traditional telephone modem. Its Internet access service also allows much quicker response times when surfing the Internet, providing a richer experience for the customer that capitalizes on the significant capacity of its broadband cable network. In addition, cable modem service eliminates the need to use a telephone line to access the Internet. It is also always activated, and, as a result, the customer does not need to dial into an Internet service provider and await authorization.
