Corporation, incorporated in 1969, is involved in three principal lines of business: cable, commerce and content. The Company's cable operation involves development, management and operation of broadband communications networks, including video, high-speed Internet and phone service. Comcast historically conducted its commerce business through QVC, its electronic retailing subsidiary. The Company's content operation is conducted through consolidated programming investments, such as Comcast Spectacor, Comcast SportsNet, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, Cable Sports Southeast, E! Entertainment Television, Style, The Golf Channel, Outdoor Life Network, G4 and other programming investments. In November 2002, AT&T, a provider of voice, data and video communications services, spun-off AT&T Broadband. Immediately following the spin-off, AT&T Broadband combined with Comcast Corporation (the Broadband Acquisition). AT&T Broadband provided cable television, high-speed cable Internet services and telephone services.The Company's consolidated cable operations served 21.3 million subscribers in 41 states, passed 39.1 million homes and provided digital cable to more than 6.6 million subscribers, high-speed Internet to more than 3.6 million subscribers and phone service to more than 1.4 million subscribers. Comcast offers a variety of services over its cable networks, including traditional analog video, digital cable, high-speed Internet and phone service. Available service offerings depend on the bandwidth capacity of the cable system. Prior to the Broadband Acquisition, 86% of the Company's cable subscribers were served by a system with a capacity of at least 750 megahertz and 95% with a capacity of at least 550 megahertz and capable of handling two-way communications. As of December 31, 2002, approximately 82% of the Company's cable subscribers were served by a system with a capacity of at least 550 megahertz and capable of handling two-way communications.
