The facilities-based Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) carrier provides local and long-distance services and broadband Internet access over its own private IP network. The company hopes to side-step stiff competition from incumbent carriers by focusing on the traditionally underserved small-business market. Cbeyond offers services in the Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Chicago, and Houston metro areas and plans to expand services to six additional markets. Investors in the company include Madison Dearborn Partners, Battery Ventures, and VantagePoint Ventures Partners.
